Behind the Sound
I am a UK-based freelance game audio designer, field recordist, and composer specialising in the creation and technical implementation of immersive sonic environments. My workflow is driven by a commitment to authenticity: I build audio identities from scratch, leveraging high-fidelity field recordings and detailed foley to craft assets that are entirely unique to each project.
For me, game audio isn't just a layer that sits on top of visuals; it is a fundamental, interactive, reality-breaking tool that anchors the player into the experience. I bridge the gap between organic acoustic performance and game logic by designing, structuring, and optimising responsive sound systems directly within middleware and game engines.
Alongside sound design, I compose adaptive, layer-based musical scores tailored to the specific atmospheric and narrative needs of a project. Whether creating subtle environmental textures or thematic arrangements, my focus is on writing music that shifts dynamically alongside player agency and game states.
I manage the end-to-end audio pipeline, handling everything from initial field recording and asset creation to final implementation. My goal is to work closely with development teams to ensure the sound design is deeply integrated into the core mechanics of their project and elevates the overall gameplay experience.
Background & Approach
My path to game audio stems from a lifelong immersion in both music and video games. Originally performing as a multi-instrumentalist in bands and pursuing music production, I moved into higher education to study the discipline formally. It was during my time at university that I discovered the world of game audio, a realisation that instantly connected my technical background in production with my passion for gaming. Growing up playing video games, I always held a deep sense of wonder and curiosity about how they sounded, constantly trying to figure out how those immersive audio experiences were actually built.
This journey also reshaped how I listen to the world. Unlike our other senses, sound is something we cannot fully control; there is an inherent beauty in stopping to listen to the organic sonic environments being created around us at any given moment. This philosophy is what drove me to specialise in field recording.
I’ve recently just finished my studies in music production at the University of Northampton awaiting on my final degree result, where I channeled this fascination into advanced game audio study. My final year focused heavily on technical audio implementation, providing me with a rigorous foundation in building optimized, complex interactive systems.
Today, my workflow balances active field recording and custom sound design with in-engine implementation. I treat every project as a collaborative opportunity to build optimised audio systems that give a game a completely unique identity and feel.
